Happy Sunday stampers! It is Sunday Funday and I have a card to share with you that is for two online card challenges. I was struggling with my creative juices and made one card that was a flop so I was in a stamping funk. When I usually lose my creative mojo, I go out to the online card challenges for all kinds of inspiration. This time I selected two challenges to get those creative juices flowing. I created a card for Mojo Monday 458 sketch challenge AND Pals Paper Arts color challenge 311. Playing along with both challenges got me my card layout and my color scheme! Whew, creative juices were back flowing.
I have been wanting to create a card with the Bella and Friends stamp set because the little dog images in this set are so stinking adorable. I needed to create a card for my neighbor who had to suddenly put his dog down and thought this stamp set would be perfect. I started with an A2 top folding card base made from thick whisper white and layered a smaller piece of smoky slate onto the front following along with the sketch design. For the designer series paper I wanted to pull in the marina mist color in the PPA challenge so I had to do some serious digging in my DSP stash to find paper that would work. I cut down that layer and added it to the card front as well.
I decided I wanted to watercolor the image from the stamp set so I got a piece of watercolor paper and stamped the image using Archival Basic Black ink. This ink gives a crisp stamped image and is waterproof so perfect for watercoloring. I also stamped the bird on a scrap piece of watercolor paper as I knew I would be fussy cutting him out and adhering him with dimensionals. I watercolored the image using marina mist, pink pirouette, and smoky slate. I used an aqua painter to lay down the color and then added a wash of marina mist around the entire image to give the appearance of sky. I cut down the watercolor piece leaving the ballon string and fussy cut the ballon out so it popped from the image. I stamped the balloon onto a scrap of pink pirouette and fussy cut the balloon out before adhering to the watercolor image with dimensionals.
I cut out two banners from marina mist and pink pirouette cardstock and embossed them both using the Happy Heart embossing folder. I stamped the sending hugs sentiment from Feather Together making sure to admit the ‘and’ part of the sentiment using Archival Basic Black ink onto a piece of vellum. I cut out the vellum piece to make a small banner. I adhered the watercolor piece and the banners to the front of the card and that finished it off.
