Well hello there stamping strangers!  Where have I been you might be wondering and well, I’ve been to better places.  I have been sick for the past two weeks with pneumonia and it was no joke.  I can’t remember being that sick and am still not back to 100%.  I am finally feeling like getting in my craft room and what better time to do it than with the start of a new class at Online Card Classes.  The new class is called Wild Card and it features cards with movement and so far I am finding tons of inspiration along with learning some stuff along the way.  If you haven’t taken any of Jennifer and Kristina’s classes featured on this website, I highly suggest checking them out and taking them.

For today’s card I am making a slider card using the stamp sets Weather Together and Love You Lots.  I have been thinking about making a slider card with the cute elephant from the Love You Lots stamp set for a while and after being inspired from the online class I sat down to make it last night.  I did attempt to film my process for making this card but my memory card in my camera ran out of space in the middle so I will have to re-film the process soon.

I started by stamping all my images onto some Bristol smooth cardstock because I knew I wanted to color them with my Zig Clean Clear Real Brush Markers.  The Bristol smooth cardstock works fantastic with these markers so I highly recommend using this paper if you use you Zigs.  I stamped all the images using Archival Ink from Stampin Up in basic gray and then colored them with my Zigs along with an aqua painter.  I then fussy cut out all the images and ran a basic gray marker along all the edges to give each image a finished look.
To create the background, I took another piece of that Bristol paper and used my distress inks to create the hill and sky.  I then flicked water on the background to reactive the distress inks and picked up the water with a paper towel to leave the water marks on the paper.  So much fun to do that technique!  I then stamped the rain drops from the Weather Together stamp set using Versamark ink and heat set in white embossing powder.
Not only have I been sick, but over the weekend when I made my first attempt at getting back in the craft room I ended up breaking my big shot!  YIKES!  I have had this machine for about 8-9 years so I was surprised it was still working as well as it did but Saturday I laid it to rest.  I am excited because this means I get to order a Stampin Up version of the Big Shot which is the BEST one around so I am patiently waiting for it to arrive.  I didn’t realize how much I use that machine until I didn’t have it.
So to create my slider window I ended up using the retired window punch from Stampin Up which actually makes a perfect slider window.  I do have some awesome slider dies from Lawn Fawn but this punch worked perfectly.  I ended up punching once then sliding the punch down the cardstock a bit and punching again to give me a long enough window for my elephant to slide over and cover his mouse friend with his umbrella.
A helpful hint is stamp your sentiment BEFORE putting all the dimensional adhesive on the back of your slider card or you will have quite a time getting it perfect like I did.  Learn from my mistakes people!  🙂
